In the technology industry, New Product Development (NPD) is a distinct process in which companies create innovative products for commercialization purposes. Yet, rarely has NPD been studied on its own, particularly among small, medium and large sized companies. Further, it has never been studied as an important separate process among British Columbia (BC) companies involved in the technology industry. Typically in BC (and many other regions) product development is treated as an adjunct to research (R&D) and/or commercial launch—the beginning and the end stages of the entire technology commercialization continuum. With this in mind, Creekstone Consulting Inc. (Creekstone) undertook a study into the product development process among a representative sample of BC companies involved in Information Communication and Technology (ICT) sectors, which also included Wireless and Digital Media sectors of the BC technology industry.
